Job searching tactics! ๐ฅ
Learning and implementing effective job hunting strategies can increase your chances of landing your dream job ๐
Job searching ๐
When applying for jobs online, especially through LinkedIn (as we all know LinkedIn is one of the most popular job searching platform), there are a few tips that can help increase your chances of success:
LinkedIn profile
LinkedIn profile is often the first impression others have of you in a professional context! Therefore, it's important to optimize it by ensuring it is complete, up-to-date, and reflects your best professional self. This includes:
Having a professional photo! ๐ (If I came across a candidate's LinkedIn profile without a photo, I may perceive it as incomplete or less professional)
A well-written summary, and relevant experience and skills listed. This is really important because recruiters will see this as your โfirst resumeโ. (Highlight your performance, work projects, team involvement, and other non-confidential information)
Incorporating relevant keywords can increase the chances of your profile appearing in recruiter searches (recruiters will search candidates based on the Keyword ๐ reach out to me directly if you would like to learn more about How to get recruiters attention on Linkedin)
Identify potential employers and apply!
Use LinkedIn's job search feature (see attached above) to identify potential employers and job opportunities that match your skills and experience and interests. You can also use LinkedIn's company search feature to research companies you're interested in ๐.
Apply with a tailored resume!
When applying for jobs, it's important to submit a tailored resume that match specifically for the company and the position (I highly recommended).
Highlights your skills and experience as they relevant to the specific job you're applying for. This can help you stand out from other candidates and demonstrate your interest in the role. (It's highly likely that you'll receive a response from the recruiting teamโฆ at least I will definitely reach out...)
Build your network with recruiters and hiring managers on LinkedIn.
Send personalized connection requests and briefly explain why you're interested in connecting with them at companies you're interested in. After applying, it's helpful to visit the company's LinkedIn page and browse through its employees to identify current recruiters working there and reach out again to show your interests (although it's not always necessary, but I highly recommend doing so) Why? โฌ๏ธ
It will further demonstrate your interest in the company.๐
After submitting your application, it's a good practice to follow up with the recruiter or hiring manager to express your continued interest in the role and inquire about the next steps in the hiring process via LinkedIn. There's a greater chance of getting a response via another channel, as recruiters can sometimes miss applications due to high volumes of inbound resumes to screen. (We will continue dive into more on interacting with recruiters and hiring manager in the 2nd parts of article)
Take the time to learn more about the company's "people quality." Research the current employees to see if the team is strong enough to tackle the company's challenges. A strong product and company will require high-quality people to build it successfully ๐ช
Interacting with Recruiters and Hiring Managers ๐งโ๐คโ๐ง
Interacting with recruiters and hiring managers can be a very important step in the job application process! Based on my experiences, here are some tips to keep in mind ๐
Both Recruiters and HM are typically responsible for screening and evaluating candidates, and building a positive relationship with them can help you stand out from other applicants. Networking with recruiters and hiring managers can also provide you with valuable insights about the company background, funding, growth and its culture.
Before we delve into deeper, I would like to provide some examples of effective and ineffective outreach messages.
First, letโs take a look on two an ineffective outreach as an example โฌ๏ธ
โฌ๏ธ Looking at the examples above, it's clear that not mentioning the recruiter or hiring manager's name, lack of self intro in your outreach message on LinkedIn is not an effective approach. This may suggest that the candidate is not fully invested in the company or position, and could decrease the chances of receiving a response. It's important to be sincere in your outreach and demonstrate a genuine interest in the company and the role you're applying for. ๐
Now, Letโs take a look an effective outreach (at least, this will get my response and attention ๐ฏ)
I find this candidate's outreach note to be very effective. They addressed me by name, specified the position they are interested in, a quick snapshot on his education and work background. In addition, it demonstrated that they have conducted research on the company, including its background and growth and the candidate attached their resume for easy access.
Note on - Length of outreaching message: I have seen some candidates that sending outreach message extremely long and mix with lots of distract infoโฆ ๐ฌ When it comes to reaching out to recruiters or hiring managers on LinkedIn, keeping your message concise is essential. You want to make sure that your message is clear, easy to read, and straight to the point. Avoid using long paragraphs or providing unnecessary information that could distract from the main purpose of your message.
Some other tips during interview or interacting with recruiters that I would like to provide!
Communication: Maintain a professional and polite tone when communicating with recruiters and hiring managers. keep the conversation crispy, clear to point.
Respond promptly: If either recruiter or hiring manager contacts you via email, or other channel, be ready to respond promptly to their message. This shows that you're interested and engaged in the hiring process! ๐ฏ
Ask good and thoughtful questions: (I really value this a lot) When communicating with recruiters and hiring managers, ask thoughtful questions about the role and the company. This is not only demonstrates your interest and helps you gather more information about the job, but also showing that you have done lots of research on the company growth, background and it high signal for recruiter/HM to acknowledge that you are engaging in the process!
Follow up after interviews: After an interview, Itโs good to follow up with the recruiter or hiring manager to thank them for their time and express your gratitude and interest in the position!
Finally, remember that it's NOT just about the company interviewing you, but also about you interviewing them. Take the opportunity to ask questions and gain insights about the company's culture, working style, team dynamics, and growth potential. This will not only help you assess whether the company is a good fit for you, but also demonstrate your interest and commitment to the role.
.
.
AT THE END!
Following these tips does not guarantee a response or job offer, but it will likely to increase your chances of success when applying for jobs and leaving a good impression to the professionals ๐ช
